Bell Street Green Transport Hub – Skills Park & Community Active Travel Programme

Bell Street Green Transport Hub is a project run by Cycle Hub CIC which is designed to make cycling safer, easier and more accessible for everyone in Dundee. It was launched in 2025/26 and Tactran are delighted to be supporting this amazing project with continued funding through People & Place in 2026/27.

• Bike Skills Park for learning and practising riding skills aimed at young people and families
• Bike Shop with new and refurbished bikes
• Professional Bike Servicing and repairs
• Secure Cycle Store for safe bike parking in the city centre
• Community cycling programmes and events

• Regional Bike reuse centre recycling over 4000 bikes from landfill every year

Kids Bike Life is a project ran by The Bike Station which is designed to get more young people and their adults cycling. It was launched in 2024/25 and Tactran are delighted to be supporting this amazing project with continued funding through People & Place in 2026/27.

It takes a data-driven approach, identifying barriers to young people cycling and targeting activities to overcome these barriers.

Using learning from the previous delivery of their Shifting Gears equalities programme, The Bike Station determined that combining bike distribution with a series of cycling activities and interventions resulted in better outcomes among their target audience. As such, they developed Kids Bike Life to work with children and young people providing cycle training activities to supplement either the bike they already have or the bike they may receive through their Wee Bike Library project.

They also recognised the need to involve parents / guardians in the project given they have a large influence over whether their children cycle. This resulted in the development of an adult element to the programme, distributing bikes and offering cycle training, to engage with both parents and their adults.

In the first few months of the project in 2026, the project has delivered cycling sessions in schools, Dr. Bike events, Bike Buses, family cycling workshops and has distributed adult bikes to the parents/guardians of children who are involved with the project.

WOW is a walking incentive scheme for primary schools, where children record how they travel to school every day using the interactive WOW Travel Tracker. Pupils are rewarded with a monthly badge if they travel actively to school at least once a week.  

Tactran are delighted to be supporting this amazing project with continued funding through People & Place in 2026/27. Living Streets Scotland has been delivering WOW and additional engagement with schools in the Tactran region for 21 years. 

Car usage on the school run encourages inactivity in children and young people and creates air pollution and traffic congestion at the school gate. Living Streets work supports walking as the natural choice for everyday, local journeys, for the betterment of people, places, and the planet. They believe that one of the most impactful journeys to switch to active travel is the school run. Not only does this improve the physical and mental wellbeing of students, parents/guardians and school staff, but it also provides valuable bonding time for peers and families, and helps to reduce carbon emissions and noisy, inconvenient traffic around schools streets for the local community. 

WOW Travel Tracker is an interactive web-based tool for measuring how children travel to school each day. It offers an engaging and fun way for children to record their journeys to school, via compatible touchscreens, classroom electronic whiteboards, tablets and PCs. Combined with monthly WOW badges, WOW forms a complete monitoring and reward system. It automatically calculates numbers of pupils eligible for WOW badges each month and allows detailed reports to be generated at class, school, local and combined authority level. WOW Travel Tracker won the 2022 Scottish Transport Award for ‘Best Practice in Travel to School and Work Schemes’.  

Face to Face Engagement can include a launch assembly, staff training, TT training, school gate events with WOW mascot, Strider, Park and Stride set up support. WOW has an element of flexibility which enables project coordinators to tailor support to suit the needs and requirements of individual schools.

Trossachs Explorer is a project run by Stirling Council in partnership with Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park which is designed to enable people to travel into and around the National Park for everyday journeys and leisure trips. It was launched in 2024 and Tactran are delighted to be supporting this amazing project with continued funding through People & Place in 2026/27.

• Following feedback from partners and communities, the new service will be expanded to run all year round. This will build on the success of the initial pilot which was commissioned by Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority, and which ran through the summer months in 2024 and 2025, increasing passenger numbers by 15% from year one to year two.
• It will operate on a similar route to the previous service, providing a vital public transport connection for rural communities between Aberfoyle and Callander, as well as providing visitors with access to key tourist destinations in the Trossachs such as The Lodge, Ben A’an and Loch Katrine Pier.
• The service will operate from Monday to Sunday, with four return journeys per day, and will support connections to the 59 service between Stirling and Callander and the X10A on to Balfron and Glasgow.
• Ticket data and survey feedback from previous years show the Trossachs Explorer being used for walking, hiking, volunteering, work, local access and onward connections. This breadth of use reflects its growing value for rural mobility – reducing car dependency and giving more people a practical, enjoyable way to reach nature rich places without adding to congestion or parking pressures.
• The Trossachs Explorer continues to illustrate what a future low carbon transport network could look like across the National Park, supporting the ambitions of the National Park Mobility Partnership to deliver an inclusive, nature positive and carbon negative travel system.
