Residents across Dundee are benefitting from 13 new Bikehangars, increasing Dundee’s secure on-street cycle parking provision by over 30%.
Due to significant demand, Dundee City Council recieved funding through Transport Scotland’s Tier 2 Fund who have provided £55,900 to fund and install the new Bikehangars.
These new Bikehangars have been installed at Stephen’s yard, Seafield Lane, Peddie Street, Brewery Lane, Blackness Street, North Ellen Street, Kinghorne Road, Crichton Street, Thorter Way, Park Avenue, Eden Street, Lyon Street, and Fort Street.
Spaces are available to rent for just £11 per year, a significantly reduced amount from the standard annual cost of £72. This subsidised rate has been made possible through £12,200 of funding from Tactran’s People and Place Fund and £3,965 from Transport Scotland’s Local Authority Direct Award Fund, ensuring the facilities remain affordable and accessible.
Dundee currently has 40 on-street residential Bikehangars, each providing secure storage for up to 6 bicycles. These facilities offer a convenient and secure storage solution for residents who do not have suitable space at home, helping to protect their bikes from theft and the elements. They also support and encourage active travel by making cycling a more practical alternative to using the car.

Cycle HUB now operational at Bell Street Dundee
The journey to transform Dundee’s Bell Street multi-storey car park into a green travel facility has gone up a gear.
Angus Cycle Hub CIC has now moved into the ground floor of the refurbished building.
From the location, the social enterprise company will provide:
· A state-of-the-art bike shop and cycle service centre (now open to the public)
· A regional bike reuse centre, recycling over 4,000 bikes per year from recycling centres and via public donations
· Affordable access to bikes for Dundee residents
· 24hr public secure Bicycle parking and Storage from the end of March
· A dedicated event room for training provision and a space for community events.
· An indoor bike skills park featuring a pump track, bike trails, coaching and learning opportunities is scheduled for full launch later in the year.
The facility is believed to be one of the first of its kind in Scotland at this scale, creating a flagship destination for active travel, skills development and community cycling.
Work to deliver the new Bell Street Hub was undertaken after Dundee City Council was allocated £14.4 million from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund and £1.6 million from Transport Scotland’s Active Travel Infrastructure Fund.
Council convener of City Growth and Infrastructure Cllr Steven Rome said: “The total project represents an ambitious redevelopment of the car park into a pioneering green transport hub which is designed to help support people to change travel habits for the future.
“I am delighted that Angus Cycle Hub CIC are now operating from the ground floor space. They have come forward with an innovative and imaginative programme and I look forward to seeing this being delivered.”
Scott Francis, Director of Angus Cycle Hub CIC, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to finally be able to accept the keys for the building after our fitting out began in December 2025. This will help our social enterprise’s long-term sustainability and allow us to consolidate a number of our projects under one roof.
“Our Dundee Cycle Hub shop at the Waterfront has now moved up to our new Bell Street location, and this is allowing us to expand and rebrand our café and eBike hire services, so customers can expect to see some exciting changes down there soon!”
The cycle hub project has been supported by multiple funders, including Tactran’s People and Place Programme.

Congratulations Ancrum Outdoors!
The Active travel Team at the Ancrum Outdoor Centre in Dundee are finalists at the National Transport Awards.
This project is supported and funded by Tactran through the Transport Scotland funded People & Place Program and promotes Active and Sustainable travel for schools and young people, with a strong focus on accessibility and inclusion.
The team work with all 33 primary schools across Dundee, offering every P7 pupil the opportunity to complete Bikeability Level 2 on-road training. Through initiatives like walking buses, led cycle rides, and free/affordable holiday bike camps, they aim to make active travel the easiest and most attractive option for pupils and their families. Part of the project includes regular litter picks to improve the local environment and foster pride in place, while active travel forums and engagement with parents help support sustained behaviour change.
